Membership Information

The GCV was incorporated in1975 and is recognized by the IRS as a 501-C-19 non-profit Veterans Organization.  We hold annual reunions in various sections of the country, the 2008 Reunion was held in Buffalo, NY-11-16 August 2008. Various activities were planned and details published in the Spring and Summer issue of the Echoes. Several small unit/ship reunions are held within the framework of the large reunion.

We publish the 24-32 page Guadalcanal Campaign Veterans’ Echoes four times a year.

Regular membership in the GCV is limited to members of US Navy, Marine Corps, Army, Army Air Force and Coast Guard who served on, in the waters around or in the air above Guadalcanal between 7 August 1942 and 9 February 1943 when the Island was declared secure. Allied Forces who served there during that time are also eligible for membership.

We also have Associate members; in fact, we just changed our by-laws to welcome with open arms those children of current or deceased members to carry on the spirit of cooperation and traditions that led to the victory at Guadalcanal. Remember, this was the first land offensive in WWII, for months, the issue was in doubt. Our motto is “It’s not the cost of belonging—it’s the price you paid to be eligible”.

Associate membership is also open to any individual who served as a member of the Allied armed forces anytime prior to, or after the above dates or have a particular interest in the Guadalcanal Campaign Veterans Organization considered to be helpful to the aims and purposes of the Association.
